Happy Easter!

This easter since I am too old to hunt for my own easter eggs I made it my mission to make some little kids smile.  So I scavenged my home and found some old plastic eggs and fun little toys!

i combined the two and
TA-DA!!!

Then I rode on over to my neighborhood park and playground and tied them around for some kiddos to find!

All I really want to do is make someones easter as good as mine has been.
Happy Easter to all.

Pixie Cut Pointers

It has been a little over half a year since first decided to get my hair cut short… like uber short.  Now I didn't go from rapunzel to pixie cut or anything but I went short enough for it to be pretty daring.  over these last six months I have come to know the ins and outs of the style  pretty well, so if you are considering it for yourself here are some pros, cons, and even some ideas on how to style a pixie cut!

PROS:
- You will receive toooons of compliments! from the moment I walked out of the salon friends family started to compliment me on my hair.  I even had a few strangers stop me in the mall to tell me they liked it!

- It draws attention to your finer features! The boldness of the pixie cut style is a super great way to make your most beautiful features stand out. Your beautiful eyes or bright smile will instantly shine brighter without a curtain of hair to distract from your natural beauty.

- Pixie cuts are an instant confidence booster! Women with short hair almost always appear to carry themeselves with dignity and confidence. I don't know if this is a correlation between the type of women who get the style or the way it makes them look, but every time I see a woman with a pixie cut It seems like she is just proud to be who she is.  The pixie cut is a sort of way of saying 'yeah I am a woman and I don't need long flowing hair to look beautiful'  In my opinion this style just exudes bold beauty and fearlessness!

-Its relatively easy to style and care for! Because the style is so short drying your hair after a shower will be super speedy, and like most you should be able to let it dry naturally and have it still look great! Having short hair also eliminates the worry that you will burn or damage your hair… split ends aren't even a concern anymore, but this is only do to the fact that you will have to get it cut pretty frequently.

-It will make you look taller! If you are a shorty like me you will understand what a benefit this can be! The fact that I will forever be 5'1" with a rather small figure seems like a much less dismal charge now that I have a style that will help me to look my age! while most people think that cutting their hair off will make them look like a little boy it is quite the contrary! having shorter hair will inevitably make your neck look longer and will make you look taller over all!

-You will always appear sophisticated and well composed! This style has a way of making women look more elegant and clean no matter what. Almost any outfit in combination with short hair looks intentional and fashionable.  This is great considering I wear glasses and before I got this style I was concerned that it might not work well in combination with my hefty hipster frames but on the contrary it helps to define them making me seem even more vintage and hip than I could have hoped for!

- Gives you room to experiment with accessories! When I first got this style I went a little over board with bows and girly jewelry to compensate for the lack of traditional femininity.  With or without accessories you can still look beautiful.  Short hair can make your new eyeliner style stand out more, not to mention red lipstick and short hair is one of my favorite fashion statements.

CONS:
-you will have to get it cut every month or so.  I am someone who's hair grows at a very rapid rate, and finding time to get to the salon has been one of the most challenging things about this style.  If my pixie cut grows out to long I start to resemble shaggy from scooby doo so I keep it at a pretty specific length.

-It won't look perfect 100% of the time.  Like any style you will have mornings that you wake up and worry that your hair might be defying the laws of physics. but that isn't any thing a few key products and some water can't fix!

-It can serve as a pretty big insecurity. Despite getting more compliments on my pixie cut than I ever did on my long hair I still get pretty insecure about it.  there are always days where one piece of my hair won't lay the right direction or my hair has a striking resemblance to that of my 10 year old brother.  As long as you remember that you are beautiful and carry yourself with confidence no one but you will notice these things.

-There are no such things as lazy days. Once you cut it short you won't have the option to throw your hair into a messy bun as you roll out of bed.  You will always have to put forth a small degree of effort in preparing your pixie cut for the public eye.

-It can get a little bit boring.  The only times I have ever ever regretted getting my pixie cut are the days when I am scrolling through my pinterest feed and I see creative braids for girls who have lucious locks down to their waist.  It is times like that when I can't experiment on my own hair that I have to seek out a friend with long hair who will let me try it out on them.

In an attempt to avoid getting bored with my standard pixie I have done my research and tried out a series of ways to style short hair that are sure to keep you interested.

For starters is simply a textured style with longer side swept bangs.  This is the style I go for on most school mornings as it requires almost no effort.

Another similar style is to go for a more wavy and messy approach.

I personally love to pin my bangs back just a bit when they start to grow out too long as it gives you a sort of emma watson boyish style.

For those days when you just want to get your hair out of your face you can just pull your bangs back with a few bobby pins and hold the rest together with a stretchy headband.  this style can be worn as both casual and elegant depending on your preference.

Most days I like to dress up the first natural style by just adding a cute headband or a festive bow.  this can bring out your girl side without having to work hard.

If you are more brave than me you might dare to wear the super bold fohawk.  As much as I love it I have yet to be brave enough to style it like this in public but no doubt plenty of girls can rock this style with ease

And on no matter what you will always be able to rock a hat wether its a slouchy beanie hip fedora or boyish ball cap you can find a hat that will look great with your pixie and express your personal style!

Some final things to consider:

-The effect of the pixie cut can be somewhat dependent on face shape so you might like to consult your stylist about you face shape and its compatibility with short hair.

-Dont let people talk you out of getting a pixie cut just because they couldn't pull it off themselves.

- Before you go to the salon do some research and find some pictures so you can accurately convey the way you want your hair to look.

-You might want to purchase some texturizers and gell to play with if you decide to go for it and get short hair.

- no matter what haircut you have, clothes you wear, or life you live if you carry yourself confidently and always remember you are beautiful people will see that and believe you, no matter what.

DIY terrarium

Do you have a boring old table or dark with a stunning lack of adorable self sufficient gardens?
Well if so This is the project for you!

You will need:
  • a medium sized jar with a lid
  • a variety of small tropical plants (such as ferns and other plants that do well in a moist climate)
  • aquarium rocks
  • potting soil
  • small decorations or cute stones *optional*

First you will need to put a small layer of the aquarium rocks at the bottom. the rocks need to be about an inch and a half deep.

Second you will need to put potting soil directly on the rocks so that it is three to four inches deep

your terrarium should look something like this...

Next you will take your plants and separate smaller pieces with their own root system and leaves
plant the separate piece of the plant in your terrarium soil and make sure that the roots are covered.
When I did this I dug a small hole and placed the roots in it and the added a bit more soil around the base of the plant.  You may have to trim some of the longer leaves off your plant depending on the size of you container and the length of the plant.

I added one sprig from both of my plants.

Finally you will add about two table spoons of water to your terrarium ( maybe more if yours is large but don't add  too much!)

If you choose to you can add some small decorations to your terrarium. Any small plastic animal rock or fish tank type of decoration will work, I chose to use my favorite colorful plastic dinosaurs!

Once you have finished making these adorable little guys make sure you place the lid on your terrarium  and set it in a place with very moderate light.  You dont want it in direct sunlight or it will get too hot but if the leaves start to turn yellow its not getting enough light.  In order for the terrarium to stay self sufficient the water you initially put in there will make condensation on the lid and create a mini water cycle.  After a few weeks if your terrarium doesn't have any condensation on the sides or lid you need to add another table spoon or two of water!
That is all it takes to bring a miniature rainforest to your desk!
